There are over 8,000 people with disabilities, 4,000 veterans, and hundreds of first-responders living in Kosciusko County alone, and there is a distinct lack of places and programs that are designed to specifically serve these individuals. Our current facilities do not allow us to meet the growing needs of the community. We need more space that is equipped to serve more people year-round. We also need more room to innovate and adapt to the increasing demand for mental health services.
In order to better meet the needs of our community and the people we serve, we will build a 14,000 sq. ft. arena specifically for veterans and first-responders so they have a dedicated space to find peace anytime they need it. We will also build a second 14,000 sq. ft. arena to increase the capacities of our programs for individuals with disabilities and at-risk youth. Additionally, we will increase our staffing by 40 percent to foster an environment of excellence and service.
Through the completion of this transformational expansion project, we expect our annual service numbers for veterans and first-responders to increase from 50 to 250. The additional space will also allow us to increase our ridership for people with disabilities from 120 to more than 400 annually. Finally, these spaces will encourage new and strengthened partnerships with local organizations, including service providers, schools, businesses, and more.
The total cost of this project is budgeted for $2 million. Construction costs will account for $1.7 million, while the other $300,000 is allocated to cover anticipated operating expense increases for the first two years after completion of the project.
Our plan is to break ground by Fall of 2025 and have both arenas completed by Spring of 2026.
